"Blowing Your Red Log" is a reference to the third and final chapter in the Back to the Future trilogy. Doc Brown pushed the DeLorean time machine in front of a steam train, using specially treated "logs" to increase the speed of the train to 88 miles per hour, far beyond its normal capability. The final log – the red log – caused the train (and the DeLorean) to speed completely out of control, and really fucked the train up. In conversation, blowing one's red log signifies the point at which one's proverbial train has gotten out of control. As in the movie, this represents a "point of no return" beyond which people will either bail out or hang on until the bitter end.
